Different types of Trump supporters

*puts on a mask*

The bigots:

They believe Trump will bring back the supposedly-existing natural superiority of the Aryans. Fuck those *insert various racial slurs here*. They don’t seem to mind that he’s an orange humanoid. They also believe he’ll strengthen the supposedly-natural hetero-normative idea that sexuality’s a moral choice.

The rights activists:

They praise him for his advocacy of equality and tolerance. They think him appointing white supremacists and homophobes isn’t a big deal. It’s a joke even. Obviously, the bigots will change their stances once in power. There are no such thing as powerful bigots.

The ones that are too desperate for changes:

They want changes no matter what. They don’t care if the new paths are leading us to a pile of diseased diarrhea belched out by an orange humanoid.

The business-minded ones:

They believe friendly business environment is the sole definition of humanity. Social justice is too worthlessly trivial. Thriving corporations is better than treating each other humanely. Therefore, it’s reasonable to vote for a four-times businessman.

The poor rural whites 1:

They are constantly neglected by those city slickers. They believe the man who was born rich, given a million dollar loan by his father, outsources jobs and has never experienced a single day in poverty is what they need. Nothing stupid about that.

The poor rural whites 2:
Again, the city slickers neglect them. That’s why they want to ruin their lives by deliberately voting for a destructive humanoid. Obviously, if you ruin the life of someone who neglects you, he/she would end up taking care of you. He/she would not have an actually good reason to neglect you.

The self-hating Muslims:

They feel they deserve nothing but mistreatment by their fellow human beings. They dream of getting all sorts of abuse, including waterboarding. It’s a BDSM kink of theirs. Don’t judge! Different strokes for different folks!

The America-hating Muslims:

They believe getting Trump elected is the best way to annihilate the power-hungry nation. No need to establish an army of exploitable Muslims who crave the sense of belonging and knows nothing about the extremist group they are joining.

The problems with anti-Ahok demonstrations

Brainless Muslims

The alleged blasphemy never existed in the first place. It’s obvious how the incriminating video was edited by Buni Yani, a proudly irresponsible and victim card-playing human being.

The editing is so obvious, even for the untrained eyes. All you need is to use your brain. Well, if you have one, anyway.

Easily offended Muslims

Whether Ahok was being blasphemous or not, that’s irrelevant. If he was, so what?

Are we so fragile against criticism of our own religion? Do we really believe everyone must love Islam?

If Islam is really the truest and strongest of all religions, do we really need to defend it so aggressively to the point of making the complete opposite impression?

I am sure the people who got offended by Ahok’s so-called blasphemy love to offend the sentiment of other religious groups. The right of being angry is exclusively theirs.

Naming the December 2nd demonstration as a “peaceful act”

Demonstration was done in the first place because certain people possessed hatred against someone that they deem offend them.

Demonstrators were caught red-handed harassing reporters.

FPI, who is no stranger sectarianism and extremism, was involved in the demonstration.

They did their Friday prayer in the middle of the road, disturbing other road users. The prayer could have been done in mosques.

They also promise more demonstrations in the future. They won’t stop until Ahok is arrested for something he didn’t do.

Is it appropriate to call this divisiness “peaceful”?

The wrapped rice army

It’s not a secret in Indonesia. Many of us are willing to demonstrate for the sake of rice and small allowance. Whether they understand the message of the demonstration, it doesn’t matter. Just give them the rewards.

It is tempting to Indonesians who live in poverty. But, I know that many of us are willing to whore ourselves even for the smallest rewards.

Money-oriented news coverage

I am delighted about the two counter-demonstrations. They may not have any depth. They may be used as vehicles for political parties. But, that doesn’t matter. What matters is their explicit message about the beauty of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity), especially in this increasingly sectarian age.

But, I am disappointed with the coverage by the media, both domestic and foreign, who focused too much on the anti-Ahok demonstrations and too little on the counter ones. Bad news thicken our pockets.

This kind of coverage unwittingly portrays those humans of hatred as the representatives of all mankind, as if their views are the only ones that matter. In the end, they are given more power the peace-loving and pluralist human beings.

Because of their great influence, the media has a responsibility for the society. But then, they think profit is more important.

Blasphemy legislation

I am one of the people who oppose it.

Even though I hate what people say about my religion, I also believe in individual freedoms. I cannot force others to love my religion like I do. I also have to learn to not get offended easily.

More often than not, a statement is considered as blasphemous…if it contradicts with the views of many. Figures like Quraish Shihab and Ulil Abshar Abdallah have such statements.

They never intended to be that way. What they do is having their own interpretations of the scripture. The problem rises when others disagree with them.

This legislation is dangerous because it prosecutes anyone who dares to think differently.

Naming the demonstrations as “defense of Islam”

Do you want to beautify our name? Show that we actually deserve respect.

Show the world that we are peace-loving.

Show them that we are intelligent and willing to have civilised conversations.

Show them that we are willing to treat everyone humanely, not matter what their backgrounds are.

But, that’s not what have been done. Some of us are aroused to do the opposite: being divisive, refusing conversation and even encouraging violence to each other…

…and all of those done in the name of Islam and Muslims.

If that’s how you live your life, don’t call yourself defenders of Islam. In fact, it seems you make efforts to taint the imagine of our religion and our people.

You should be the ones prosecuted for blasphemy, not Ahok.

Permasalahan Seputar Unjuk Rasa Anti-Ahok

Mau mengharumkan nama umat?

Give Trump a chance?

Why? Has he proven himself as worthy of it?

He is a politically-experienced, reality show star and four-times-bankruptcy businessman…

…who turned the presidential election into a big fat joke.

After getting elected, he seems surprised by the scope of presidential duties.

…has shown disinterest in intelligence briefings…

…and has broken his own promises.

He upholds pseudoscience.

He fueled Obama birtherism….

…and blaming Hillary Clinton for fueling it, despite the video evidences.

In fact, basic fact-checking is enough to rebuke most of his claims.

He’s in business ties with a Saudi prince, while claiming to be anti-Islamic extremism.

He demands art and entertainment venues to be political safe spaces, ignorant about their age-old purpose.

His feelings are too fragile to embrace even the most constructive criticism.

He retaliates by making personal attacks against his critics…

…and even attempts to silence them. He and his supporters.

He always responds to sexual abuse allegations against him by pointing out to the ones against Bill Clinton, as if it makes his case any better.

He is too eager to use nuclear weapons.

He thinks it’s morally acceptable to kill relatives of terrorists.

He may not be a bigot. But, he panders to actual bigots in order to get their votes.

Not all of his supporters are bigots. But, it took him so damn long to condemn the bigoted ones. Even then, his condemnation is mere words.

If you’re reasonable, you would not trust me with your pen…and my flaws are much more benign compared to his!

He has proven himself as an irresponsible, pathologically-lying, spoiled and bigotry-pandering petulant child who is used to get his ways.

Do you seriously think we should such human a global super-power country with the third largest population on earth?

Why is he given such opportunity? Why can’t we just give it to actually-competent people?

Oh wait, he’s rich and famous. Never mind.

The Brief Tale Of The Citrus Man

Infants cry in terror at his presence. Garden-gnomes connoisseurs think he is the only gnome they abhor. The devoutees believe he’s Satan’s novice. Incubi are shamefaced by him. Sciencemen think he is one rare and grotesque specimen. The more immoral he is, the more he is loved. His existence is a literal abomination.

He is the Citrus Man!

His power? Birthing minions seemingly out of nowhere. Some say they are plucked out fresh from the earth, with shrieks worse than the Mandrakes’. Some say he takes them out of their festering yet safe wardrobes.

He spews vomit and faeces on collossal quanta, burdening our heavily-plagued existence with more diseases. His minions delightfully gorge on them…for different reasons:

Some think his waste isn’t one at all. They earnestly believe it’s a delectable tonic. It’s sadly foreseeable, considering their deplorably impaired senses. Others do see it as waste. Their senses are perfectly functional. Yet, they’re still golloping it. They don’t understand others’ aversion against his filth. That’s not even the worse part.

They want him to be crowned, to be seated on the throne. His Highness, King Citrus Man. Oh, Lord. The aroma may have spread all over the earthly sphere. But, pity the ones who share a realm with him. Pity them who are smothered by his loathly residue.

Of course, others aspirants exist. Sadly, they are a diplomatic swindler, a Janus-faced healer and a sombrely unlettered sportsman. What an assortment.

Even with more honourable challengers, even if they are victorious, the Citrus Man has opened the Pandora’s box. It will take many suns to mend the world, to extinguish every single morsel of the unleashed degeneracy.

His existence is a literal abomination.

I don’t get the Pewdiepie bros

Seriously, I don’t and I’m one of them. Some are just….I don’t know….idiotic? Childish? Naive? Blind? It’s not about them spamming comment sections, screaming how Pewds is the best. Other fandoms are also guilty of that. It’s about how they know nothing about him.

They think Pewdiepie and Felix Kjellberg are one person. They aren’t. Pay attention to his videos. You will see two different people. Entertainers have public personas to be more entertaining. Even Felix said that in his podcast. It’s a common knowledge! Disbelieving that is delusional.

They also hate the new Pewdiepie because he edits too much, stops playing games, tries too hard to be edgy and becomes money-grubbing and inconsiderate. The old Pewdiepie isn’t guilty of those, they say. Well, let’s dissect them individually. I am referring to Pewds’ negative traits, not the bros (even though I want to dissect the brains of airheads).

First of all, he still plays games, albeit less. He has said countless times about wanting variation. It is either you are absent-minded (you need the doctor) or you are a shamelessly dull creature (you need to change). Oh and he plays games because he wants to. Give him suggestions, not coercion.

Yes, it is true he edits too much. It can be overwhelming to watch, especially when one loves transquility. But, people think it proves how he stops working hard. In what dumbass universe does that make any sense? More editing literally means spending more time on your videos! All you need is a brain to get that.

The old Pewds used offensive words just because he could. The new Pewdiepie uses them much less. In fact, he has become a satirist; his commentaries smack us to reality. And yet, new Pewds is the try-hard one. It’s like thinking how pop is more cultured than Jazz. Even Pewds himself thinks his old self was a try-hard.

There’s no evidence that the new Pewds is greedy. Not one. He does have ads in his videos. But, so do other Youtubers. In fact, he always disclose his sponsors. Also, his wealth is irrelevant. It has nothing to do with his greed or the lack of it (click here to watch Let’s talk about money).

The old Pewds always smiled, never scolded his fans and granted their wishes. He seemed kinder then. But, that’s superficial. He put a sugary mask, hiding God-knows-what behind it. The new Pewds, on the other hand, is always outspoken. We know what he thinks and feels. I don’t know about you. But, I believe insincerity and honesty are obvious signs of human decency. We’re not being lied to.

I believe those horrid bros are a minority. The other bros I know are more dignified. Alas, the tiny yet raucous minority gets the attention. They’re the de facto representatives of the bro army. Of course, we can call out those primitive simpletons, forcing them to contemplate about their lack of sophistication, intelligence and integrity. But, I’m a cynic. No matter how much we try, I’m sure they’ll always be there, ruining it for everyone, like a colossal boil on a face. Call me self-righteous. But, at least, I’m decent enough to know my own flaws

*grumpily bro fisting the screen*

The beauty of fandoms

*puts on a mask*

I love being a member of fandoms. If we are asked to describe ourselves, we would use adjectives like “cerebral”, “idealistic”, “sophisticated”, “positively rebellious”, “unique” and “superior”. It is not narcissistic if it is true. We are special. We are beautiful. These are the good reasons for us to believe that:

We believe our tastes are the best…

Wait, let me correct that. Our tastes are indeed the best. It is not an opinion, it is a fact! No, we are not being biased. It just happens that ours are the best ones.

…and we demonise anyone who don’t share ours.

Good tastes are everything. They define our worth as human beings, more so than our morality. Don’t have good tastes? You don’t deserve humane treatment. You are literally worse than Hitler!

We hate changes.

We love the old ones because they are awesome. But, those change-loving deviants want us to love the new ones. Anything new is inherently worse! Judge something based on its age, not on what it has to offer. This is why dignified people love age-old bigotry!

We are so entitled.

Our good tastes entitle us with more rights. Our demands have to be granted! The creators do not -and should not- have any creative control. It is our prerogative! I don’t care if there are others who love the creators’ works. If we don’t enjoy them, others shouldn’t as well!

Do you want to be special? Do you want to raise through the social ranks? Do you want to become real humans? Follow our steps and be us!

That is a nice motto. Be us! BS for short!

*takes off the mask*

To be a cultural wizard

Am I already one? Let me see:

I am from Indonesia. With hundreds of native ethnic groups, it is one of the most diverse countries in the world. I have spent most of my life in the city of Batam. As it is a planned city, there is no native ethnic group and many of the residents were born elsewhere. So far, I have seen six dominant ethnic groups and that doesn’t include smaller ones. I have also spent some time living in Jakarta metropolitan area. As the nation’s centre of everything, it is much more diverse.

I have visited twenty two countries (thanks to my mom who could afford it). As Batam is located near Singapore, I have visited it more than the other foreign countries. Many foreigners reside in both Batam and Jakarta. When I was in junior high school, some of my teachers were Filipinos. I have also spent some time living in Melbourne for study. My university has lots of foreign students. I got along really well with some students. Not a single drama.

I am also bilingual in Indonesian and English. I am confident to say I am relatively fluent in both. Indonesian helps me to get closer to my roots and English helps to get to know foreign ones. Every time we speak a language, our minds start using cultural perspectives associated with it. Jokes that sound good in Indonesian sounds terrible in English and vice versa. So, my outlook should be more multicultural than monolinguals’.

A child of multiethnic parents? Have been to many places? Bilingual? It sounds like I am already a cultural wizard, right? No, I am not. I used to see myself as one based on those reasons alone. What experiences I have does not matter. What I learn from them matters a lot….and I have learned nothing, especially about stereotypes.

I still fall for them. Sometimes, in discussions about societal issues, I still use them as references! Some are indeed true. But, life is much more complex than that. I have been frequently slapped in the face by the impossibility of pigeonholing. But, I still do it anyway. All of those wasted epiphanies. I am just getting started with my sins.

I have committed many as a traveller. They make me judgmental against “the others”. Expecting everyone to speak English and to share my way of life are the worst sins. It is very unforgivable of me as I a, aware of human diversity. I think I know the reason why. I think…

I only speak Indonesian and English. Indonesian is, as the name suggests, a national language. It bears the country’s national. Despite its slight bias to certain regional cultures, it is still the least sectarian cultural identity in Indonesia. But, such empowering strength is accompanied by a crippling weakness: vulnerability to foreign influences. I do not oppose them. In fact, I welcome them! But, the problem with Indonesians is we hate being ourselves. We are very joyful about our heritages in jeopardy. I myself prefer English over Indonesian. I can’t speak a single regional language (and there are hundreds of them!); when I speak Indonesian, my dialect tend to be similar to the Jakartan one which is nationally-accepted. Of course, that is not entirely my fault. I was never taught to speak one by my family and schools. I am just making excuses.

Without doubt, English is a global language. Some says that global languages are hostile to regional cultures. Hostile to regional languages? Maybe. But, not to regional cultures. For me, global languages are apathetic to them. They may help us learn other regional cultures. But, they do not encourage. Well, they do if we speak unique regional dialects…and many of us don’t, especially non-native speakers like me. Okay, I know blaming languages is far-fetched and childish. Not to mention that I shamelessly dedicate two paragraphs on it. I would be surprised if I have convinced you. But, I promise the next reason will be more believable.

I used to think holiday and travelling were interchangible. Big mistake. I had the awakening when Justin Lukach from Departure and PBS’s Rick Steves pointed out the difference: Holiday is about relaxation and travelling is about new experiences and learning. Paraphrasing Rick Steves, holiday is not a sin, mistaking it with travelling is. I am a faithful committer of that sin. On trips, I always visit tourist attractions, eat familiar food and distance myself from the locals. Never leave home without my beloved bubble. This sin reveals something about myself that I find hard to admit: I don’t have the will to learn!

I am a do-nothing inept sloth. I am too lazy to try anything new. I prefer to lay down on my bed, browsing the internet. I can use the internet to learn new things. But no, I use it only to view my favourite videos and to interact with friends and acquaintances. I find cultural heritages are more difficult to learn than school subjects. I need to pop my bubble. Am I ready for it? Wait, I ask the wrong question: do I want it? No. Not now, at least. I am interested in other cultures. But, I am too lazy to do the efforts. Of course, that is my personal problem, not anyone’s elses. But, for others, the reluctance to learn is caused by another factor.

I notice many netizens champion cultural competence. I used to think that was terrific. But then, many are also nightmarish. They demonise every “uncultured” person. Tell them that you haven’t tried or don’t like sushi and expect a tsunami of hatefulness. I know, I know. Their maturity and courage are small enough to befriend microbes. But, it is undeniably off-putting. You start associating cultural competence with those so-called humans.

*starts sensing the readers’ impatience. LOL. Most of my readers are my friends….*

What’s the point of my rambling? I just want to say we should thrive for cultural competence. It helps us in acknowledging the kaleidoscopic nature of humanity and, better, humanising each other. But, at the same time, you cannot force it; thrive for it because you genuinely want to. When you do, never be forceful to others; you want them to love it, not hate it. End up with the latter and we’ll get even more disconnected from each other.

How to be a modern and global citizen

1rvsf8xittphsxj97lw5f3w*puts on a mask*

Do you want to be a person of global capacity? Are you tired of belonging to people with backwarded cultures? Do you want to belong to people who hate their roots with a passion? Well, I can show you how to be culturally genocidal. First thing first, only embrace important cultures.

When I said “important” cultures, I meant the most popular ones. It is just logic that popularity equals worthiness. Popularity trumps over anything. In globally-adored popular culture, they are often portrayed as the most superior. We should just take that for granted. There is no reason for the people involved to be culturally bias. Why would they? As I said, their cultures are more important. So, it is impossible for them to be wrong.

As languages are a part of cultures, we should also stick to the most spoken languages like English, Spanish, Arabic, Indonesian/Malay, Mandarin, French, Russian, Hindi…….

…..Wait, no! Just stick to English! Because it is the most learned language on earth, why bother learn the rest? English is obviously the winner. In true competitions, losers must not only be ignored, they also must be viciously destroyed.

I am tired of retards who defend those backwarded cultures. They either cannot bring development or they are almost forgotten. Reforming them? Bitch, please! Cultures are rigid, never-changing and entirely black-and-white objects; only imbeciles who don’t study history would think otherwise*. Replacement, not reformation, is the only solution. Also, as I said before, a culture’s worth is superficially defined by its popularity. We should prey the ones that are on their deathbeds. They are so vulnerable, it would be so easy to murder them! If only more of them are this vulnerable. That would be nice for the cowardly weaklings among us.

Why do I choose this brutal method? Why can’t we both traditional and modern? Both local and global? As I said before, cultures are rigid and entirely black-and-white entities that cannot evolve. They also cannot fuse with or influenced by each other. That is just impossible! Just give me one culture that interacts with another! Just one! See? You can’t give me one.** So, we have to make a choice. It is either you keep embracing that backwarded regional identity of yours or you choose to be modern and civilised with the global identity. I hope….

*points gun at your head*

….you choose the latter.

*takes off the mask*

*Find me a culture that never changes. Not even the most isolated ones are static.

**Find me a completely isolated culture. Just one.
